On July 18, 2025, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham)

hosted a breakfast meeting with Ms. Shilpi Jha, Senior Commercial Specialist and IP Policy Advisor for South Asia at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The session focused on strengthening Bangladesh’s intellectual property rights (IPR) ecosystem. Key discussion points included enhancing IPR awareness among government and enforcement agencies, promoting regular collaboration with private sector stakeholders, and advancing capacity-building for enforcement personnel such as customs officials. The conversation also emphasized the importance of integrating IPR education into academic curricula, accelerating legal processes to deter infringement, conducting TRIPS-related impact assessments, and fast-tracking Bangladesh’s accession to the Madrid Protocol for international trademark protection. The meeting underscored the value of public-private cooperation in safeguarding innovation and fostering a knowledge-based economy.
