AmCham COVID-19 Support Initiative (Phase-2) for Healthcare

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) virtually inaugurated the “AmCham COVID-19 Support Initiative (Phase-2) for Healthcare” as part of its continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s healthcare response during the pandemic.

H.E. Earl R. Miller, Ambassador of the United States of America to Bangladesh, attended the ceremony as the Guest of Honor and spoke on the occasion. The program was chaired by Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed, President of AmCham, while Ms. Zahida Fizza Kabir, CEO of SAJIDA Foundation, briefed the participants on the project details.

Although Bangladesh was witnessing a gradual decline in COVID-19 cases and the vaccination program was providing an important safeguard against the virus, hospitals outside divisional headquarters continued to face serious capacity challenges. Many public hospitals remained under-resourced in terms of critical care facilities, trained manpower, diagnostics, and essential medical support. In this context, the need to strengthen healthcare services in district-level hospitals remained urgent.

Following its earlier initiatives to support communities during the pandemic, AmCham launched this project with the approval of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and in association with SAJIDA Foundation. The initiative was designed to strengthen COVID-19 treatment capacity in three public hospitals located in Jashore, Chuadanga, and Pabna districts.

Under this initiative, AmCham supported the establishment and management of ICU and HDU facilities, extended treatment support for COVID-affected patients including those in general wards, and facilitated diagnostic services and essential medicines for patients in need.

A significant number of AmCham members, Executive Committee representatives, foreign dignitaries, business leaders, media representatives, and other distinguished guests joined the virtual inauguration ceremony.

Through this initiative, AmCham reaffirmed its commitment to standing beside the people of Bangladesh and contributing to critical healthcare support during a time of national need.
