AMCHAM DELEGATION MEETS THE HONORABLE CHAIRMAN, NBR

AmCham President Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed led an AMCHAM delegation to meet with

Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, FCMA, Honorable Chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh.

During the meeting, President Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed stressed automation for trade facilitation trade and competency in the global market. The AmCham team highlighted seamless import and export customs clearance, such as Using appropriate HS code, changing the manual signature requirement to e-signature, and ensuring the ASYCUDA system remains operational 24X7.

Besides, In addition to a separate certificate to avail from the International Tax Wing of the NBR tax benefit under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), reducing tax rates for Non-resident Institutional investors to target positive FPI flow, removing the provision of PSR verification, and exemption from the requirements of implementing the VAT software, other important VAT, TAX, and IGM/EGM-related challenges were discussed.

AmCham asked for feedback from its members, and the compiled, reviewed recommendation list was also shared with the NBR Chairman. AmCham President Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed handed over the June edition of the AmCham Journal to the honorable NBR Chairman. Mr. Hossain Ahmed, Member (Customs: Policy & ICT) and Mr. Md. Belal Hossain Chowdhury, Member (VAT Policy) (Current Charge) from NBR also attended the meeting.

The role of NBR is crucial to attracting foreign investment. Mr. Khan expressed his continued commitment to making the different approval and certification processes smoother for the business. He also assured AmCham that he would review the recommendations for further consideration. He strongly suggested reporting any business challenges through the online tracking system, Grievance Redressal System (GRS).

Ltd. at the meeting.
