AMCHAM DELEGATION MEETS THE HONORABLE GOVERNOR, BANGLADESH BANK

AmCham President Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed led an AMCHAM delegation to meet with the Governor, Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Bangladesh Bank, on October 16, 2024
President Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed congratulated Dr. Mansur on his new role during this challenging time, appreciated him for taking some timely initiatives, and raised a few points for review and consideration.
During the meeting, The AmCham team highlighted the Non-performing Loan (NPL) Management, standardizing regulatory reporting, reviewing and updating the crawling peg mid-rate (CPMR) at a fortnightly interval, acceptance of electronic signatures, access to the Bangladesh Bank web portal from outside Bangladesh for any specific range of IP addresses used by foreign banks and other foreign organizations, timely resolution of shipping document discrepancies to avoid payment delays, Promote Digital Payments Incentives, Introduce open-loop transit and toll payments system.
AmCham asked its members for feedback and recommendations relevant to Central Bank policy to facilitate trade. The compiled recommendation was then submitted to the Bangladesh Bank Governor for consideration. Deputy Governor Mr. Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Executive Director Mr. Md. Anwarul Islam, and Executive Director Mr. Mohammad Jamal Uddin from Bangladesh Bank also attended the meeting.
The Governor assured AmCham that Bangladesh Bank would thoroughly review the recommendations for further consideration. He thanked the AmCham team for their commitment and support in attracting FDI and shaping the bilateral business environment in Bangladesh.
After the meeting with the AmCham delegation, the Bangladesh Bank took a few effective actions. Immediately, the Bangladesh Bank eased the foreign airlines’ fund repatriation policy, for which the aviation and logistics industries were suffering. Earlier, Bangladesh Bank’s approval was required to make payment, leading to late disbursements of payable funds. The amendment will have a positive impact on the overall situation, freight and cargo import-export airfare will go down. AmCham is grateful to the Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, for taking this effective decision right away.
