The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) organized a Focus Group Discussion titled “Framing the Logistics Sector Landscape: Challenges, Opportunities, and the Way Forward” at The Westin Dhaka, bringing together private-sector stakeholders and development partners to discuss priorities for logistics reform in Bangladesh.

In his opening remarks, Logistics Veteran, Syed Ershad Ahmed, President of AmCham Bangladesh, highlighted the critical role of logistics in sustaining supply chains and economic growth, noting that despite recent progress, Bangladesh’s logistics sector continues to lag behind regional peers amid rapid global shifts driven by automation, digitalization, and supply-chain resilience.

Dr. M. Masrur Reaz emphasized the importance of logistics efficiency for trade competitiveness, citing that Bangladesh’s GDP is projected to reach USD 760 billion by 2030, while a 1% reduction in logistics costs could increase exports by around 7%—a crucial consideration as the country approaches LDC graduation. He also pointed to implementation gaps in the National Logistics Policy and the need for coordinated infrastructure planning and private investment.

A development partner outlined a phased reform roadmap for the sector, identifying short-, medium-, and long-term priorities focused on policy implementation, multimodal connectivity, skills development, digitalization, and investment mobilization to enhance competitiveness and job creation.

The discussion underscored the urgency of moving from policy intent to execution through structured public-private engagement and targeted reforms to support Bangladesh’s evolving trade and investment needs.
